Tom Peters, a business advisor, is sometimes quoted for saying: “No matter what business you’re in, you’re always in the communication business.” Communicating development issues is definetely a crucial task and I recenty contributed by co-writing an editorial on microfinance in Berlingske Tidende, a Danish daily. Co-authors were former Minister of Foreign Affairs, MP Mogens Lykketoft and Kasper Graa Wulff.
The commercial bank CDRB gives out loans to microfinance institutions. Its microfinance program, and it’s general restructuring is supported by DANIDA. As they write:
“CRDB has been blessed with an invaluable partnership from the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA).”
There is not much microfinance in Denmark. DANIDA has some activities which Carl Bro is currently evaluating. Oikos and Mercur are investing in microfinance. Some Danish NGO’s have been doing some microfinance, with limited success.
Furthermore, there is supposedly something called Viking Investment Services doing only microfinance. The only pieces of information I have been able to find on them are these. If anybody knows anything about them, please let me know.
